YMCA of Hobart - Coronavirus Updates

Update 11th March 2022

In keeping with current State Government advice and regulations, face masks are not required to be worn at Clarence Aquatic Centre until further notice.   While masks are not mandatory in many settings, individuals are encouraged to wear a mask as extra protection if they are in a setting where they cannot physically distance or are vulnerable to COVID-19.

From 5pm today, the places where wearing a mask is mandatory for people aged 12 years and older (unless exempt) are:

  • Hospitals (not patients)
  • Residential aged care facilities (not residents) and in-home and community aged care
  • Residential disability care facilities (not residents) and in-home care, including disability support provider and NDIS-funded services
  • Correctional facilities (not prisoners/detainees)
  • Health care and medical facilities and services/treatments, including allied health
  • Primary (teachers/staff/visitors only) and secondary schools (including students)
  • Early childhood services, including childcare (excluding children)
  • Public transport eg buses, passenger ferries, taxis and rideshare services
  • Airports and aircraft
  • the Spirit of Tasmania and ports.

 

Update 14th December 2021

With the boarders opening on the 15th of December and changes to the entry requirements at some facilities, we’d like to take this opportunity to provide an update on what’s happening at both the Clarence Aquatic Centre and Glenorchy Y.

At the Y, we plan to operate in keeping with current State Government advice and regulations.  

Visitors and patrons are to maintain social distancing, Please wear your mask, use the ‘Check in’ App and use the hand sanitizer upon entry and exit.  Please stay at home if you have symptoms or are feeling unwell.

We strongly encourage all Tasmanian (including our staff and patrons) to be vaccinated.

Update 18th October 2021 – Reopening (Masks mandatory until 22nd of Oct 6pm)

YMCA of Hobart Centres (Clasrence Aquatic Centre YMCA and YMCA Glenorchy) will resume normal operations as of Tomorrow, Tuesday 19th of October, with Mask wearing mandatory for everyone over the age of 12 until the 22nd of October at 6pm.
About the wearing of masks:
  • Patrons are responsible for providing their own face mask; no face mask no entry!
  • Official exemptions must be shown to reception on entry
  • Swimmers are to wear a mask until ready to enter the water
  • Do not leave your mask on the pool ledge (it will get wet)
  • After your swim, dry your face and refit your mask as soon as possible before entering the change rooms
  • Refit your mask as soon as possible after showering /drying off
  • Swimming Lessons will run as usual – parents and children 12 and over are to wear a mask
Our staff will be wearing masks with the following exceptions:
  • Lifeguards are required to wear but can remove their mask when communicating instructions with others (to aid in clear enunciation)
  • Swimming Instructors are not required to wear a mask when teaching students in the water due to safety and to aid in clear enunciation. Swimming Instructors teaching students from out of the water can remove their mask when communicating instructions to students (to aid in clear enunciation)
  • Coaches are required to wear a mask but can remove their mask when communicating instructions with others (to aid in clear enunciation)
  • AquaFit Instructors are not required to wear a mask when teaching students in the water due to safety and to aid in clear enunciation and due to physical exertion
  • Fitness Instructors are not required to wear a mask when teaching a class to aid in clear enunciation and due to physical exertion

 


Update 15th October 2021 – 3-Day Snap Lockdown

Following on from today’s announcement of a 3-Day Snap lockdown, the Clarence Aquatic Centre YMCA and programs running from YMCA Glenorchy will be closed as of 5pm today (15th of October) and will remain closed during the 3-Day Lockdown, or until further notice from the DHHS.

All swim lessons, swim memberships, squad memberships and visit passes will be suspended as of this afternoon.  Terms memberships will be extended for the same period as the closure.  Any payments made for future services will be held in credit.

We recognize the importance of our communities being healthy, happy and connected – even more so during this time.    We thank you all for your patience and continued support throughout this difficult time and look forward to seeing you back at our centres, once we reopen.
