Canoe Polo is a competitive ball sport played on water in canoes, within a defined field. Two teams battle each other, each team with 5 players. The object of the game is to get the ball into the opponent’s goal, with the team scoring the most goals the winner.
The ball is passed between players hand to hand, with some use of the paddle permited. A player in possesion can be tackled by being pushed over by the shoulder. Players may only hold the ball for a maximum of 5 seconds. Players can dribble the ball by throwing it out of reach ahead of themselves or sideways on the water.
The game is often described as a combination of water polo, basketball and kayaking. It is a fast paced game, only for those who dare to play! The tactics and playing of the game are similar to those in basketball or water polo, but with the added complexity of the canoe’s.
